Care and cleaning?

First time printing and wondering about leftover resin and cleaning the platform and vat. Can unused resin be poured back into the bottle? Do I just rinse off the platform and rinse out the vat with water?

Due to the chance of slag or partly cured resin, it would be good to filter it in some way so it doesn't interfere with your next build. I have used those little coffee inserts for Keurig coffee machines that have a metal mesh in them at the bottom? I hold that over a glass and pour the resin from the vat into the coffee insert. The filtered material comes out the screen and the goop is left behind. For larger vats, there are these paint filters with 190 micron mesh you can get on Amazon that do a good job of removing fine debris.

I have poured resin back into the bottle, but most owners of these types of printers frown on it since it would potentially contaminate the good resin with the used resin. If you have some of those brown plastic bottles used to store light senstive liquids like hydrogen peroxide, those make great used resin holders when cleaned out. I bought a 12-pack of amber glass bottles from Amazon (my favorite place to shop!) to store my different colors of used resin.

For the build plate acrylic, use paper towels to wipe off any splashed resin.

For the aluminum build plate, I use a paper towel with isopropyl alcohol (IPA) to remove all traces of resin.

For the vat with FEP tape, wipe the interior with a paper towel, then I pour a little IPA into the vat and use another paper towel to wipe up the residue. Dilute the IPA with water, then rinse in the sink. If the vat feels tacky, I will then use soap and water to make it squeaky clean. Dry with another paper towel and you are good to go!

Thank you. This seems like such an obvious question that everyone will need to know after their first print. I wonder why it is not in the basic instructions/documentation.

Glad to help! Hopefully in a documentation update, they will put the best practices in place so all can follow them.
